Last night, I ventured to Wally's down on Mass Ave to get my Tuesday night 2-steppin on. The Tuesday night house band, (W.T.F. Wally's Tuesday Funk) scrambled my brain the entire night. Playing covers of James Brown and Lettuce as well as original tunes, WTF kept it engaging and funky all night long. Having been to funky Tuesdays several times now, I've discovered you're always in for a treat on Tuesdays. Last night, there was a special appearance and collaboration on keyboard by Victor Wooten's BROTHER- Joseph Wooten. Let me tell you, he has got some dirty chops. After jumping on keys for a few tunes with the band, Joseph Wooten laid it down and elevated the energy inside the club. The same time Joseph hopped on keys, a vocalist came up and started singing Soul Power by James Brown and EVERYONE in the club started gettin' down. Not going to lie, I had to bust a move for a hot minute to that classic groove.
Overall, funky Tuesday's at Wally's is the place to be in my opinion. There's always top notch musicians dropping in to play a few tunes (in the past I've seen Eric Krasno and Alan Evans show up unannounced) and the house band always keeps it fresh and fun. What else are you going to do on a Tuesday night? Bartender makes strong drinks and there's no cover charge at the door. Can I get a hell to the yes?!
